Getting Ready for Folklife–Tunes to know

Thursday, May 6th, 2010

If you came to our last meeting, you know that we ran through a few old standards and talked about adding a few “new” tunes into the mix that has become our standby “go to” list for appearances like Folklife.  This year we’re scheduled to play on Monday, May 31 at 5:40.

To that end, here’s a prospective set list and we’ll be assembling to rehearse and learn the sets for the next few weeks.   If you’re interested in joining us, come by my place in Wallingfor–Wednesdays anytime after 7:00.  We’re usually finished by 9:00, but you are welcome to drop by even if it is just to listen and appreciate the unique sonic spectacle of uilleann pipes played en masse.

The Tunes:  (I’ve noted if you can find them in the Walsh book–old version, I’m afraid– will try to dig up notes to post for others–let me know via e-mail if you would like them sooner than later! )

Marches: –O’Sullivan Mor (I won’t be a Nun)–Walsh #407 / Shane O’Neill’s (Walsh #409)

Hornpipes: The Honeysuckle (Creegan found a version & Phil noted in some ornaments)/ The Wexford (Walsh #349)

Jigs: Sean Bui (Yellow Jack) –(Walsh #71) / Donnybrook Fair (Walsh #4) / Fraher’s (Walsh #34)

Extra Set:  Hogan’s Favorite (Walsh #96)  / Connaughtman’s Rambles (Walsh  #14/15 ) / Lark in the Morning (Walsh #3)

Reels:

Merry Blacksmith (Walsh #154) /Kitty’s Gone a Milking (Walsh #305)

George White’s Favorite (Walsh #227) / Mountain Road (any one have the notes?)

Polkas: Clog / The Other Clog / Mrs. Crowley’s (Walsh #387)–The Clogs are from Joe McKenna and I do have a scan of the Notes and can post or send you copy.

Hope you can join us to go over the tunes–please plan to join us on stage for Folklife!

Cheers,

Rod

The Tionol is almost here!

Monday, February 8th, 2010
Greetings all,

The wild rumpus is about to begin and the last minute adjustments are falling into place.  As you know, we traditionally kick off the weekend with a Friday night gathering to welcome all the attendees.  This year is no exception and we are once again indebted to Kevin & Laura as hosts for the kick-off festiviites;

For those of you who need to update your files, their place is located at:

3616 Burke Ave. N. (in the Wallingford neighborhood of Seattle)
That’s 36th and Burke.

We’ll commence the party at around 8:30 and hope to carry on until a fairly indecent hour.  (If you’re in town and just waiting around for the party give a call.)  Please help out by bringing a ration of beer to share and some food as well, if you can.  There will be a number of weary travellers present and we’ll need to revive them and make sure they have the sustenance to power themselves through weekend.

If you’re a local member…

Still a number of tasks that we could use help with. Let me know if you can help out with any of the following:

–If you have any time free on Friday and have access to a car, there may be a few folks who could use a ride in from the airport.
–Also, there may be a few bodies at the party from out of town who could use a bed for the night (nothing fancy, just a place to crash for a few hours and a lift to St. Ben’s)
–Still some tionol shifts to cover if you are willing and relatively able.
–Send out an e-mail invitation to anyone you know who might be interested in the concert.  ( We have to lay out a lot of funds to make this all happen and the Saturday night concert is the big  fund-raiser for the weekend.  Encourage everyone you know, or think you know, to come!)

Let me know via e-mail or phone if you can help out.  Looks like it is shaping up to be a great weekend.  Looking forward to seeing all of you in person.

Thanks in advance for helping to make it all happen,

Cheers,

Rod

Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009

Dear Irish Pipers Club members and visitors,
Our Website was hacked and infected with a virus. It has taken us a while to figure out the security issue and weed out all the junk code from the site. The layout you are seeing is temporary until we make some changes to our old layout. Sadly, we’ve had to delete all our old posts but the club pages can be visited by clicking on the links at the right.
Thanks for your patience and support!
